Bittree to Feature SMPTE Camera Hybrid Patchbay at 2020 NAB Show

Wed, 26 Feb 2020 16:54:10 -0500

Bittree has announced the launch of its new SMPTE Camera Hybrid Patchbay, which will be part of its exhibit booth during the 2020 NAB Show.

The SMPTE Camera Hybrid Patchbay is a hybrid connector patchbay with a newly designed SMPTE-style connector that can support up to 12 camera connections in 1RU. This helps create a space-efficient unit that can be used in OB trucks, multistudios and stadium environments, per Bittree.

The system allows for easy changing of camera positions when moving cameras within central studios or stadiums. As a throughput device, the patchbay can also support all-fiber rich content productions.

Each low profile patch point on the front panel features a locking, quick-thread hybrid connector with a red alignment indicator and polarizing pin for connectivity. It can also incorporate expanded beam technology on the front optical patch point connection, eliminating the need for frequent cleaning or adjustment. The fiber rear interface offers three types of single-mode connections—Dual ST, LC or SC.

In addition, the platform has four large contacts to accommodate 2-16 AWG power conductors and 2-24 AWG AUX connectors, connected by Bittree’s E3 connector. The patchcord and internal cabling are SMPTE-311 compliant. Patch points are also IP67 rated.

Bittree will showcase the SMPTE Camera Hybrid Patchbay at booth SU10507 during the 2020 NAB Show, taking place from April 18-22.

NAB Unveils Election Toolkit for Stations’ Political Coverage

Tue, 25 Feb 2020 17:07:43 -0500

The National Association of Broadcasters today announced the launch of its 2020 Election Toolkit, a print and online resource to help local broadcast radio and television stations with their news coverage of the 2020 presidential, congressional and local elections.

The toolkit provides broadcasters with resources to identify misinformation online, suggestions about fact-checking statements made by political candidates, tips for helping get out the vote and ideas for social media engagement with citizens. In addition, the toolkit offers scripts for public service announcements about voting in primary and general elections, as well as information about sponsoring debates and candidate forums.

“Broadcasters are the most-trusted source for political news and information, and we take seriously our role in helping educate voters about the issues affecting their communities,” said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. “The election toolkit provides guidance for broadcasters during their election coverage that will educate the electorate, promote civic engagement and build a stronger democracy.”

The toolkit was unveiled in advance of the 2020 State Leadership Conference on February 24, an annual meeting of more than 550 radio and TV broadcasters to discuss legislative and regulatory issues important to the broadcast industry.

FCC To Host March 26 Forum on 5G Virtualized Radio Access Networks

Fri, 21 Feb 2020 14:22:00 -0500

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai today announced that the agency will hold a Forum on 5G Virtualized Radio Access Networks on Thursday, March 26, 2020. At the forum, experts who are at the forefront of the development and deployment of interoperable, standards-based, virtualized radio access networks will join Chairman Pai and other Commission staff to discuss this paradigm-shifting approach to 5G network deployment.

“The FCC has taken aggressive action to promote American leadership in 5G—a major priority for the agency and the Administration generally. One way to advance this priority is through the development and deployment of more secure, cost-effective 5G network components. Virtualized radio access networks could help us do that, as I’ve heard here in the United States and discussed with stakeholders abroad,” said Chairman Pai. “We want the United States to lead the way with this innovative approach to mobile network deployment, and I look forward to hosting experts in the field for a productive discussion about the current state of vRAN- related technologies and the path ahead.”

The Forum on 5G Virtualized Radio Access Networks is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, March 26, 2020, and will be held in the Commission Meeting Room at FCC Headquarters, 445 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC. It will be open to the public and will also be webcast. Additional information regarding the agenda, speakers, and logistics will be released closer to the event.

NAB Affirms 2020 NAB Show Is Set for April; Devotes Resources to Address Coronavirus Concerns

Thu, 20 Feb 2020 17:18:03 -0500

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), organizer of NAB Show, affirmed the 2020 NAB Show is set to take place as planned, April 18 – 22 in Las Vegas. The association is closely monitoring COVID-19, commonly known as coronavirus, and is prepared to devote whatever resources necessary to ensure a safe and productive NAB Show experience.

NAB Show is the premier event driving the evolution of media and entertainment. It is an engine for commerce and a critical launchpad for products and services expected to revolutionize the business. The convention’s 1,600 exhibitors and 90,000 attendees rely on the annual NAB Show to raise their profile and meet business goals.

While the NAB stands firm in its commitment to hold the convention as planned, the health and safety of attendees and participants are NAB’s top priority. To that end, NAB is dedicated to providing rapid responses and assistance in support of the global NAB Show community’s participation plans. The event management team has launched a COVID-19 resource page on the NAB Show website, where updates will be provided.

Currently, NAB is:

• Adhering to all guidance and recommended safety measures issued by the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and local health organizations.
• Working with the Las Vegas Convention Center, the airport authority, and area hotels and resorts to coordinate appropriate safety procedures.
• Following CDC recommendations and protocols for heightened levels of cleanliness at event facilities.
• Making accommodations and actively encouraging attendees to take common-sense precautions and follow CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of illness.
• Ensuring medical care is readily accessible to address immediate health concerns.
• Working with China-based exhibitors and registered attendees to evaluate options for those unable to attend due to travel restrictions. Of note, NAB Show attendance from China, although growing, represented less than 2 percent of total registered attendees in 2019.

NAB is taking COVID-19 very seriously and is fully invested and prepared to host a successful NAB Show in Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas is maintaining rigorous cleanliness and safety standards throughout public spaces, resorts and meeting facilities, and hosts successful trade events daily. Meanwhile, NAB Show has experienced an uptick in exhibit sales, attendee registration and hotel bookings in recent weeks, and conference program speakers are confirmed daily.
